INNOCENCE PROVES NOTHING 💀 A 360 of a Custom Service Inquisitor Lord Torquemada Coteaz which loved completing for our clients collection.

This fantastic conversion and traditional hand sculpted miniature has been an absolute privilege to bring to life for our client, check the second image for a before paint green and grey image.

As one of, if not their favourite characters from the Warhammer 40,000 setting, our client wanted something a little special to represent him in their collection.

Painted to honour the OG artwork of him from the Daemonhunters codex in his golden armour! We have not forgotten his cyber eagle, check the later photos in the carousel where he is completed and painted.

We loved adding all of the skulls and skeletons onto the base, this was taken from reference imagery that our client provided. It adds a super grim dark setting to the piece and frames the pose / composition perfectly.

💀 Who would you have made as a one off Custom Service miniature?

An awesome Vulkan He’Stan miniature we have worked on! It is great to see him in Primaris form!

This sculpt was such a great update to the previous iconic Salamanders character which we have absolutely loved working on!

What is it that you like or dislike about the Salamanders chapter and why? Now the latest sculpt has had time to brew, what do you think of the pose and design for this version of him? 🤔

BUILD IT STRONGER! 💪🏻⚒️📌

Introducing HOBBY HACKS, our new series packed with demonstrations of the best @paintperspectivepodcast Hobby Hacks, plus plenty of new tricks!

First up: PINNING MINIATURES

Want stronger joints for assemblies and conversions? Pinning is a great way to reinforce those tricky connections.

HACK WITHIN A HACK: Scratch up the surfaces before gluing. Creating texture gives the glue more to grip, helping strengthen the joint even further, whether you’re pinning or not.

Simple. Effective. Stronger models.

What Hobby Hack should we tackle next?

A vibrant Death Guard Rhino which we have completed as part of an army phase for our client.

The rich green scheme works well and contrasts the darker toned metallics and brass details.

The subtle rusting on the metallics and tracks looks great and add a patina of the grandfathers pestilence!

🤢 What is your favourite tank in the warhammer 40k lore?

FIRSTBORN OR PRIMARIS? 🫯

A converted Space Marine character we made using Fafnir Rann for our clients collection.
His larger scale is great and it’s nice to see a firstborn marine still being wanted and used for armies!

The desert base and golden accents contrast well to the darker armour colour.

🫯What do you prefer? Primaris or Firstborn?

A Castellan Knight we painted as part of a custom knight house project. This is a really awesome colour scheme mixing two contrasting colours with the red and green. The neutral to cream accents really worked to complete the scheme.

One of the really hard things with such a large miniature is adding the colour scheme in a way in which it looks balanced and also add interest to the different parts of the miniature.

With so many armour panels and details it’s always a fine a process of application and checking the overall look which is a challenging itself.

When it comes to painting a miniature of this size and detail it’s about adding focal points using high contrast tones and colours to draw the eye to those specific details.

We hope you like this fantastic night which was an absolute pleasure of pain as part of a much larger force!

🔥 What would you name this knight house?

Some Black Vipers Chapter Astartes that our client had added to their army phase commission.

The black and red scheme is really striking and gives the Astartes a menacing look. Our client provided some custom transfers to add to these miniatures which worked out really well and gave them their heraldry.

Finishing off the miniatures, our client elected to have a desert basing scheme which provided a high contrast finish for their environment.

⚔️ What second founding chapter is your favourite and why?

Magos Vhul’kar the Unbound, Apostate of the Ninth Helix & next @thearmouryuk reveal.

Once, he bore a name sanctified by Mars. Now he is something far darker…

This piece was about capturing that precise point where logic begins to fracture under the weight of something older and far hungrier. The serpentine lower body is the core of that idea, it represents Vhul’kar’s ultimate heresy, a prison and a pact fused into a single form.

In painting, we wanted every material to feel distinct but still part of one corrupted whole. The steel is heavily weathered and dulled, pushed away from the pristine Martian ideal into something more functional and degraded. Warmer tones in the metal help tie it into the gore and exposed flesh, reinforcing that blurred boundary between machine and organism. The reds across the base and body are not just for contrast, they hint at the constant feeding cycle that sustains the entity bound within him.

The green glow in the lenses and sensors was kept sharp and focused. Vhul’kar does not rage, he calculates. Every light source feels like it is actively scanning, searching for the next harvest. The axe became a key focal point, built up with heat staining and wear so it feels like a tool of precise, engineered destruction rather than blind brutality.

Vhul’kar did not fall in a moment of weakness, he chose this path. A corrupted STC fragment became the seed of his transformation. Where others saw heresy, he saw evolution. Steel was too rigid, flesh too fragile, so he reached into the warp and forced a third component into the equation.

That serpentine body houses the daemon itself, a bound predator woven through plasteel, muscle, and warp essence. It grants him unnatural speed and strength, but it comes with a cost. It must be fed. His mechadendrites harvest blood, neural signals, and even the fading spark of the soul, all siphoned into the coils beneath him to keep the daemon compliant. When it is sated, it obeys. When it is denied, it takes.

The raised mechadendrites form a crown of control, while the coiling body suggests constant motion and tension.
