Some commissions push the boundaries of miniature painting. Others push the boundary of what’s possible in custom modelling. At Siege Studios we found that this project demanded both.
This commission saw us create five completely bespoke Thousand Sons Sorcerers, four inspired by the iconic artwork of Miguel Iglesias and one by Elijah ArhPriest. Rather than simply recreating existing miniatures, the goal was to transform already incredible artwork into something truly inspiring.
Each model received extensive custom building, advanced basing, and intricate freehand work and a Platinum grade paint job, resulting in a collection that is as much sculpture as it is miniature painting.
Five Sorcerers, Five Unique Custom Service Sculpts.
One of the most exciting aspects of this project was that every Sorcerer represented a different cult within the Thousand Sons, giving each miniature its own unique identity.
Cult of Knowledge
The Cult of Knowledge Sorcerer embodies the relentless pursuit of forbidden wisdom. Covered in arcane accessories, the model features an unforgettable sculpted helmet, alongside four independently posed arms.
The accompanying base continues the narrative with ancient tomes and scrolls beneath the Sorcerer’s feet, creating the feeling this Sorcerer has mastered knowledge beyond comprehension.
Cult of Mutation
Few Chaos models embrace body horror quite like the Cult of Mutation Sorcerer.
Bursting from gaps in the armour, what was once a Space Marine is now something beyond recognition. Even the Sorcerer’s staff becomes a living nightmare.
The mutation continues seamlessly onto the base, where an ever-growing mass of tentacles cover the ground.
Cult of Duplicity
Perhaps the most deceptive of the five, the Cult of Duplicity Sorcerer is built around illusion and misdirection.
Hidden beneath a sculpted hood lie multiple masks. An elaborate breastplate and shorter ceremonial staff, with trinkets and a burning parchment complete the imposing silhouette.
The custom base introduces one of the commission’s most imaginative storytelling elements, depicting a polished reflective surface where the Sorcerer’s distorted reflection appears trapped in the glass.
Cult of Magic
This Sorcerer embodies pure magical power.
Rather than standing on the battlefield, this character floats above it, suspended by a cape that transitions into glowing magical power. Magic erupt from the armour, face and staff, while burning braziers crown the backpack to create the impression of a magical inferno.
Below, the base serves to make this Custom Service model stand out amongst the rest, portraying the power of sculpting and the industry’s best paint work.
Order of Ruin
This mechanical emerald master is a fantastic example of how far you can push the visual identity of the Thousand Sons.
The colour scheme truly makes this piece stand out, it contrasts beautifully with the gold armour and dark purple robes giving the model a rich appearance, further adding to it’s already striking silhouette.
There are countless smaller details to discover, from the parchment covered in arcane runes and scarab-inspired decorations, almost every part of the model tells a story.
Platinum Level Elevates Miniatures.
With the sculpting complete, the painting stage elevated each miniature even further.
Every Sorcerer features bespoke freehand work including legion symbols, cult insignia, personalised Tzeentch iconography, intricate cloak designs and countless rune-covered parchments. Rather than repeating patterns across the collection, every freehand element was tailored to reflect the individual cult represented by the model, ensuring that each character felt truly unique.
